A simple weekly guide to help someone learn to follow Jesus in everyday life.
Foundations is a guide to help anyone develop personal spiritual practices around reading the Bible, talking to God in prayer and helping others to discover Jesus too. This resource is designed for small group settings of 1:1 or 1:2 people and is great for anyone who is new to faith or who has never been intentionally supported to discover who Jesus is and obey what he says.
Each week contains daily Bible passages to read in your own time, then you will meet together weekly or fortnightly for about 1 hour to:
Go deeper in a short passage of scripture
Learn a new spiritual practice/tool
Pray together
Commit to a next step of obedience
If you are new to faith and would like to use this material ask an experienced Christian if they would be willing to do Foundations alongside you. If you don't know anyone, feel free to get in touch with us.
If you've been a Christian for a while, we encourage you to consider using this guide to help someone else establish foundational habits of reading the Bible, praying and helping others discover Jesus too.
If you are not from The Street and have been using this guide, we'd love to hear your stories! Get in touch and let us know how you're going.
How to get the most out of Foundations
Rely on God. Pray that God will help you and practise listening to the Holy Spirit.
Be consistent. It works best if you can commit to a rhythm that is sustainable for each of you (eg. meet once a week or once a fortnight).
Move at the pace that suits you. Don’t feel pressured to rush past things if you are struggling - slow down if more time is needed to process the learning. Be flexible and responsive to where each person is at.
Discipleship is about sharing our lives together and helping each other grow. It’s not about ticking a box or making it through the content. Be genuine with each other.
Each session has a reading from the Bible where we’re learning to observe what it says and apply it to our lives. It’s followed by an important truth that comes up in the passage. If you’re leading one of these sessions, this is something you can make sure comes up in your conversation.
