Night Summer Sabbath

What a crazy couple of years we have had… We have all faced this pandemic, many of us have had to change plans that we had whether with work, holidays, weddings or leisure, riding this wave of change can be quite tiring.

Anna and I have really sensed the Lord speaking to us about “sabbath” and actually taking a sabbath as a church community.

We have been struck by the fact that having a Sabbath was something that Jesus actually did! So if Jesus needed to stop and rest I think we sure do as well. “The sabbath was made for man not man for the sabbath” - Mark 2:27

Sabbath is not a religious rule that we are forced to follow. God made the Sabbath because He knew/ knows that for us to thrive and function properly, we need rest!

So we are taking these few weeks over summer as The Street Night community to “Sabbath”. This is not simply a time to take a break from God or church but this is a time where we grow closer to Him and come back together in the new year refreshed and on fire. We want to encourage you to dig into the Bible, go deeper in prayer, spend time in His presence and do things that refresh you spiritually, physically and mentally.

What does this mean practically?

    • Taking a break from in person services from 19th Dec - 30th Jan

    • Dig into the Word as a community, both for our personal relationships with God but also to establish habits for the year ahead.

    • Intentionally spend time in His presence.

      • Make a cuppa and go somewhere peaceful or sit somewhere quiet and listen.

      • Just BE in His presence. “Learn to listen”.

      • Meditate on scripture.

    • You can follow the reading and prayer plan that will be put on Facebook, Instagram and the website every Sunday over the 5 weeks. The overview is linked below.

      • We will be reading through Exodus, Hebrews and Acts.

      • The reason behind the different prayer points is to be actively praying for the groups of people God has put in your life.
